Alyssia and the American Dream

A few more days to go, a few more exams to write, a few more papers and presentations to do.. Yes, there is finally an end in sight!
Not only makes that these last few weeks a lot more bearable, also it means that I can really start to focus on my exchange! It’s only three more months before I leave (can you imagine?) and I really cannot wait.
Last week I met Gary Davis, the head of the honors department at UNK, who will basically be the person I need to go to if there are any problems. He was here in Middelburg and we talked a lot about the awesome opportunities I will have over there! He was very enthusiastic about us coming, he even insisted that I would do undergraduate research in psychology there! As my plan was already to do an IRP in my last semester, this extra semester of research experience will definitely add to my resume. Also, it is even possible to do sports there for credits! Obviously these can’t count towards my RA degree but at least it is nice to have a few hours of sports every week. The choices are unlimited: tumbling, swimming, archery, bowling.. whatever you want.
This exchange just brings so many opportunities. Especially for psychology students it is great! There are so many psych courses that you almost drown in them. There are also lab courses and more practical psychology courses, which we don’t have at RA. Definitely sounds very good to me.
Aside from the academic part, I just cannot wait to have some American food: poptarts, Reese’s cups (although I cannot really eat them.. allergies ugh!), big American hamburgers, pizzas.. I really do hope they have some healthy options there too haha! I can’t wait to see a real American football game, the cheerleaders and all that cliché stuff you see in movies. Because apparently, it is real!

Alyssia looking forward to what lies ahead

It’s been a while since I last posted a blog! Well, we’re heading towards the end of the semester (4 weeks left!) and now the real work starts. A math project, a poster for anatomy, analysis of cortisol, amylase and heart rate for my group’s research paper on cognitive dissonance & stress response, another paper.. And of course we have to do presentations on all of this, and then all 4 courses have finals as well…
Yeah, sometimes it feels overwhelming, but the fact that there is an awesome last year coming up makes everything worthwhile. Not only is the summer break insanely long (as always), I’ll be leaving for the US of A in August and – as far as I hear from others – I will have a great time there!  Although I will mostly be in Nebraska, I have planned a trip to NYC, visiting my intraweek mom who studies at NYU now. Can you imagine that? NYU! Such a dream!
I’ll be back in the Netherlands right before Christmas and then it’s only one semester to go! Finishing up my psychology track, my stats minor and my language requirement, leaving exactly one nice spot for an IRP. I cannot wait.
Last year, here I come!

Alyssia and the Exchange Applications

It’s almost midterm break! However, this does mean that there are lot of midterm exams right now… Last week I had two, this week another two. Unfortunately, other stuff keeps popping up as well. Gosh, sometimes it’s just really annoying! However, good stuff’s happening too!
I am busy with getting my stuff together for my exchange to Nebraska, USA next semester. By stuff, I mean forms. LOTS of forms. Applications, bank forms, grade transcripts, the whole thing. So enough to take my mind of things ;) As you can see below, I already received my UNK t-shirt! Very proud, haha ;)
The weather here’s getting better as well! Lots of sun, not much wind (which is rare) and no rain (*knocks on wood*)! So a trip to the beach is definitely coming up soon.
See you next time!
